    Great video! thanks, im considering riding the entire Empire State Trail myself, so I really enjoyed this. (Minor correction, you said: "Days 1 and 2 are mainly rail trail biking on the Erie Canal Trail with a few road sections." - None of it is a rail trail.) ;) (some later sections are, but not Buffalo to Pittsford.)

    I was on the trail May 23-25 2024 and south of Hill City there was water in the rest stop cisterns. Avenza is good. I use GAIA pro app for public land. There is limited public land between Pringle and Edgemont. I ride a Surly Bridge Club with 27. 5 with 2.4 tires. Pretty cush. I used a shuttle from Edgemont to Deadwood then rode south back to Edgemont. Pretty party pace at two and half days.

    I just rode the Mickelson May 24, incredible. Wild camped on Black Hills NF one night. Storms near Custer, motel one night, then 44 miles to Edgemont by early afternoon. There are shuttles available. Going back this fall with friend with ebike of hers.

    Easch of the Amish's horseys has a name! I wont listen to bossey people no matter how well intentioned. When I want something or anything from another adult, today I simply ask that person! Telling anyone what to do when they are grown just wont work. I wear my helment also. When it gets dark try riding some of the trail then. i never had the money for any hotel at all! Just carried enough for some food. I get hungry. i have on the instant pot right now, beans, and brown rice and dried veggies. Some spices too. I peddled from 11 years old, to 65 years old. My left hip is going out on me been disabled over 49 years too. Paul in Ohio This is me I prefer to let others know what we can do instead of all the stuff we should not do. Positive stuff!

    Find the bike and gear that you are comfortable with / Every ounce counts like backpacking. I agree with over packing food. There are so many towns and if you time it right you don't have to carry a ton of water, just time it to fill up before you camp for the night. If you are unfamiliar with any trail then do as much research as possible and lay out a plan to leave with family and friends.

    Hi. I am confused. Are 28mm ok? You mention 28mm or wider in audio but the graphic says 32mm or wider.

    • @NobleInventionBikeTouring
      @NobleInventionBikeTouring 2 місяці тому

      28mm are going to be ok in my opinion, but it ultimately is down to rider comfort and skill, and the load on the bike. If you can go wider, it gives you a bit more stability and comfort. I must have missed on the graphic, but either are ok. Thanks for the question!

    Yes, I know it looks cool to wear earbuds. But I've seen so many people hurt (riding and walking) on trails because they can't hear people coming up behind them. At the worst moment they veer off path and a crash ensues. And no helmet? Not setting a good example for a bicycle touring company. I saw a guy get run over in one of the concrete tunnels by an E-bike. His helmet was crushed against the concrete pier. Had he not had it on, he would have been in the ER. Still got bloodied even with the helmet. Also, for first-timers, as a courtesy to the landowners you are supposed to close all gates as you pass through them. Yes, I know they were already open when Sarah went through them, but leaving them open leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the ranchers...many who did not want the trail being built through their land. Please close all gates.

    You're right: Don't count on anything being open as a source of food. water or lodging. I learned my lesson in France years ago, when on a couple Sundays I rolled into a town to find everything closed, streets deserted and nothing available.

    Thanks for sharing this video! I'm surprised you didn't mention the Grandin Road/Cartridge Factory construction/detour on the Little Miami Scenic Trail, a few miles north of Loveland. Nice work! 🚴🏼 Are you sure about the camping at that stop? I’ve read that camping along the trail is prohibited. Another thing: are you wearing a Walz cap? I have several and that’s what it looks like. 👍 As you do, I don’t wear a helmet on these easy trails. I don’t see the need.

    • @NobleInventionBikeTouring
      @NobleInventionBikeTouring 7 місяців тому

      Much of the trail is bordered by private land which does not allow for camping. You can camp in a few places along the trail and just off the trail where I did. There is a Forest Service app that allows you to see if you're on public or private property.

    • @markstevens4264
      @markstevens4264 4 місяці тому

      A few years ago I would have agreed with you on the helmets. But this past year there were so many E-bikes going well above 20mph. At their weight up to 70#, if they run over you (and they did run over a few people last year), you will wish you had a helmet on. I know that's rare, but that's what accidents are. I "think" helmets are required on the trail based upon the handbook I got, but maybe like the speed limits that rule is not enforced. I was on the trail for 3 days and I never saw any of the trail stewards they talk about. Be safe.

    I watched both your videos. Thanks for the info you shared. I’m planning riding this in May 2024. The forest service road you used for dispersed camping, is it right off the trail? Any chance it’s marked? The information I received from the Mickelson Trail folks does say camping is not allowed on the trail. Appreciate any info. Thanks.
